Senate President Godswill Akpabio has petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS) over an alleged anti-Northern statement circulating on social media platforms.
Akpabio’s Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, disclosed the petition to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday.
The petition, submitted by Akpabio’s Chief of Staff, Chinedu Akubueze, on behalf of the Senate President, urged the DSS to investigate what it described as a “manifestly false, inflammatory and dangerously divisive statement” being attributed to Akpabio.
The statement, which was reportedly shared on Facebook and other platforms alongside Akpabio’s photograph and official title, allegedly quoted the Senate President as saying: “Northerners, you will be the ones to suffer the most, if you allow Tinubu to lose the election.”
Akpabio’s office denied making such a statement, describing it as a deliberate attempt to misrepresent him and create tension among Nigerians.
The Senate President requested that security authorities identify those behind the alleged publication and take appropriate action in line with the law.
