Tinubu accepted Osun defeat, didn’t interfere — Sanwo-OluLagos State

Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu did not interfere or show displeasure after the All Progressives Congress (APC) lost the Osun State governorship election.

Sanwo-Olu made the statement at the Freedom Online 7th Annual Lecture on Thursday, according to a post shared on X by his Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Jubril Gawat.
The Lagos governor cited the outcome of the August 15 Osun governorship election as an indication of democratic progress under the Tinubu administration.

He noted that the people of Osun State exercised their right to choose their leader, with Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defeating the APC candidate by more than 60,000 votes.
Sanwo-Olu said the APC candidate, who represented both the party and the President’s political platform, accepted the outcome of the election, stressing that Tinubu neither attempted to influence the process nor reacted negatively to the defeat.

He described the development as evidence that Nigeria’s democracy is becoming stronger, with citizens’ choices being respected regardless of party affiliation.
