Ex-IGP Adamu Emerges SDP Governorship Candidate in NasarawaFormer Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the 2027 Nasarawa State election.Adamu emerged through a direct primary conducted by the party on Saturday, where his candidacy was affirmed by delegates through a voice vote. The exercise was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in line with the Electoral Act and the commission’s guidelines. He replaces Musa Adamu Angba, who reportedly withdrew from the governorship race, paving the way for the former police chief to secure the SDP ticket.Speaking after his emergence, Adamu identified poor infrastructure, inadequate healthcare facilities and the neglect of rural communities as some of the major challenges confronting the state. He also promised to prioritise agriculture, noting Nasarawa’s potential as an agrarian state, while pledging to ensure that the state’s mineral resources are managed in a manner that benefits its people.
The former IGP further promised to run an issue-based campaign across the state’s wards and local government areas, saying his administration would work to improve governance and development if elected.SDP presidential candidate, Adewole Adebayo, who attended the primary, urged Nasarawa residents to support the party’s candidates, describing Adamu as an experienced leader with a record of service in the Nigeria Police Force. The development comes after earlier uncertainty over Adamu’s candidacy. In August, INEC had listed Musa Angbazo as the SDP’s Nasarawa governorship candidate, while Adamu’s campaign organisation maintained that the former IGP was the party’s authentic candidate.
