The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has criticised the poor condition of Nigerian roads, saying travel times have become unnecessarily longer due to the state of infrastructure across the country.
Obi, in a post shared on his official social media page, said a journey that should normally take about eight hours now takes almost two days because of bad roads.
He urged governments at all levels to focus more on rehabilitating and maintaining existing roads rather than embarking on new projects.
The former Anambra State governor cited the experience of a traveller who departed Onitsha on Saturday night with the intention of arriving in Lagos on Sunday morning.
According to Obi, the traveller had not reached Lagos by 8pm on Sunday and eventually arrived at about 2pm on Monday.
He described the situation as unacceptable, stressing the need for urgent attention to Nigeria’s road infrastructure to ease movement and improve economic activities.
