2025 Agreement: NANS Warns Governors Against Another ASUU Strike. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has warned state governors against actions that could trigger another strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), urging them to implement outstanding provisions of the 2025 agreement.NANS said students should not be made to bear the consequences of disputes between academic staff and governments, warning that another prolonged shutdown of universities would worsen the academic, psychological and economic difficulties already experienced by students.The warning followed ASUU’s decision to authorise branches in 20 universities to issue 14-day ultimatums to governments over unresolved aspects of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement.NANS President, Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, acknowledged ASUU’s right to demand implementation of agreements reached with government but appealed to the union to ensure that students were not made victims of the dispute.
The students’ body particularly urged governors whose state-owned universities are affected to urgently settle outstanding obligations under the agreement and resolve issues concerning staff welfare.NANS described the failure of affected state governments to meet their responsibilities as unacceptable, stressing that the classroom should be the last place where students suffer the consequences of administrative failures.The development comes amid growing fears of another nationwide disruption of academic activities, with industrial action already affecting some universities following disputes over the implementation of the 2025 agreement.
