The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has rejected claims that some of its directors and senior officials are illegally remaining in office beyond the statutory retirement age.
The allegations, which surfaced on social media, were described by the board as false, reckless and defamatory, with TSUBEB accusing those behind the claims of attempting to mislead the public and tarnish the image of the institution and its leadership.
In a statement issued by the board’s management, TSUBEB said all issues relating to appointments, retirements, promotions and other personnel matters are handled in line with the Taraba State Public Service Rules and other relevant regulations.
The board explained that public service regulations allow for extensions of service where such decisions are deemed necessary in the public interest, provided they receive due approval from the appropriate authorities.
TSUBEB particularly denied allegations that its Executive Chairperson, Hon. Dr Christiana Taninga Binga, unlawfully kept any official in office.
According to the board, the officers currently serving under extensions obtained the required government approvals and followed all due processes before their continued service.
The board urged members of the public to disregard the claims, describing them as misinformation capable of creating unnecessary distrust in the institution.
It also warned individuals responsible for spreading what it termed false and defamatory information to desist, adding that it may take legal action against those found culpable.
TSUBEB further appealed to media organisations and the public to always verify information through official government channels before publishing or sharing claims concerning the board and its officials.
The board reaffirmed its commitment to improving basic education in Taraba State and supporting reforms aimed at enhancing the quality of learning across the state.
