Arise News anchor, Rufai Oseni, has said any presidential candidate who considers themselves too important to appear for television interviews would not serve Nigerians effectively if elected.
Oseni made the statement in a post on X, stressing that leaders who avoid public scrutiny and debates may become disconnected from the people they seek to govern.
His comment comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, where Nigerians are expected to elect the President, governors, and lawmakers at both federal and state levels.
The broadcaster also emphasised the importance of presidential candidates engaging with citizens through interviews and debates to explain their policies and visions.
“Any presidential candidate that is too big to appear for an interview on television will never serve Nigerians well.
“Such persons will be too big for the people, especially those that will never debate,” Oseni wrote.
The statement followed the release of presidential candidates’ credentials and personal details by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as part of preparations for the 2027 elections.
