A political analyst and former ally of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Segun Sowunmi, has predicted that the 2027 presidential election may largely be a contest between President Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show, Sowunmi said the political landscape ahead of 2027 is shaping into a direct rivalry between both figures.
He also suggested that President Tinubu could secure stronger electoral performance in several regions compared to previous elections, particularly in the South-East and North-Central, while noting that outcomes may vary across other zones depending on local political dynamics and key power brokers.
According to him, the North-West and North-East regions would remain highly competitive, with political influence from state actors and stakeholders playing a decisive role in shaping results.
Sowunmi further projected that Tinubu could potentially win up to 22 states in the 2027 election, though he stressed that regional alignments, political alliances, and economic influence would significantly affect the final outcome.
The comments have added to early political discussions already building ahead of the 2027 general elections, as parties begin to position themselves for what is expected to be a highly competitive race.
