Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have dismantled a roadblock mounted by fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province along the Buratai–Kamuya road in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, rescuing 53 civilians and recovering eight vehicles earlier seized by the insurgents.

According to a statement from the Headquarters, Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, signed by Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, the operation took place on June 24, 2026, after surveillance teams detected suspected terrorists blocking the highway.

Troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion under Sector 2 of Operation Hadin Kai were immediately deployed to the scene following the alert.

The military reported that the insurgents were first sighted by troops stationed at Dutse Kura through surveillance systems, prompting a Quick Reaction Force to be deployed. The troops engaged the fleeing terrorists in a gun duel along the Mangari–Dora axis, forcing them to retreat.

After the encounter, security forces rescued 53 civilians and recovered eight vehicles allegedly seized during the blockade. The area was later swept and cleared to prevent further threats, although no additional contact was made.
All rescued civilians and recovered property were moved safely to Buratai town, where victims are currently undergoing

documentation and medical evaluation.
The Theatre Command commended the troops for their swift response and professionalism, while also urging residents to continue providing timely intelligence to security agencies.

Military authorities further assured that the security situation in the area remains stable, with ongoing clearance operations to maintain dominance over insurgent activities.
