Nigeria Records Zero Aviation Fuel Imports for 13 Consecutive Months. Nigeria has recorded zero imports of Aviation Turbine Kerosene (ATK), also known as Jet A-1 aviation fuel, for 13 consecutive months, as domestic refineries continue to meet the country’s entire demand for the product.Industry data from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) showed that between June 2025 and June 2026, there were no recorded imports of aviation fuel by Oil Marketing Companies, making local refineries the sole suppliers of the product throughout the period. The latest petroleum supply statistics indicate that domestically refined aviation fuel has completely displaced imported supplies, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s quest for energy self-sufficiency and import substitution. The development is expected to reduce the country’s dependence on foreign fuel imports, conserve foreign exchange and strengthen the capacity of the local refining industry.Industry stakeholders said the sustained supply of Jet A-1 by domestic refineries demonstrates growing confidence in Nigeria’s refining sector and could improve the stability of aviation fuel availability for airlines operating within the country.

They also noted that continued investment in local refining infrastructure and efficient distribution networks would be critical to sustaining the gains and ensuring uninterrupted supply of aviation fuel nationwide. The achievement is widely seen as a positive step toward strengthening Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector and enhancing energy security through increased local production.
