Arise Television Morning Show anchor, Rufai Oseni, has criticised the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, over what he described as a lack of clear policy direction during a recent interview.
Oseni made the comments on Monday while reacting to Obi’s appearance on Channels Television, where the former Anambra State governor discussed his plans for Nigeria ahead of the election.
The broadcaster argued that presidential candidates should go beyond making general promises and provide Nigerians with detailed explanations of how they intend to implement their policies.
According to Oseni, leaders must present workable ideas and methodologies rather than relying on broad statements.
“We can’t run a country on vibes. We need to know the how, the ideas, and the workability of those ideas,” he said.
He questioned why candidates had yet to release detailed manifestos and policy frameworks despite the election approaching.
Oseni said Nigerians should demand specific plans from all presidential contenders, particularly on critical national issues such as insecurity and electricity.
Speaking on insecurity, he urged candidates to explain their strategies without necessarily revealing sensitive operational details.
“Nobody is asking you to share operational details. What we are asking for is the overarching details, your methodology, and how you intend to solve the problems,” he stated.
The television host also highlighted the power sector as an area where candidates must provide technical solutions, noting that Nigeria’s electricity challenges require clear investment and infrastructure plans.
He questioned how future leaders would address issues such as electricity transmission and increasing power generation capacity.
Oseni maintained that Nigerians should focus on debating the feasibility of candidates’ ideas rather than just listening to campaign promises.
