NSCDC uncovers suspected fake university in Lagos, rescues 106 youthsThe Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Badagry Area Command, has uncovered a suspected fake university operating from a three-bedroom apartment in Ilado, Olorunda Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, rescuing 106 youths allegedly recruited into the scheme.The command also arrested the alleged proprietor of the institution, who is accused of deceiving young people from across Nigeria and neighbouring West African countries with promises of admission into a foreign university.The operation was carried out in the early hours of Monday following several days of intelligence gathering and covert surveillance by operatives of the NSCDC.According to the corps, the suspected institution operated without an official name, registration, signboard or recognised campus, yet allegedly portrayed itself online as a distance-learning centre affiliated with a foreign university.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly used false claims of international academic affiliation to attract prospective students, many of whom travelled from different parts of Nigeria and neighbouring countries in search of higher education opportunities.The 106 rescued youths have been taken into protective custody, while the suspect remains in detention as investigations continue.The NSCDC said efforts are ongoing to determine the full scope of the operation, identify possible accomplices and establish the identities of all those involved in the alleged fraud.The corps reiterated its commitment to combating fraud and protecting members of the public from criminal schemes, urging prospective students and parents to verify the accreditation status of institutions before seeking admission.
