Four police officers detained over alleged extortion of ICPC chairman in Abuja. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has detained four police officers over allegations that they extorted ₦53,000 from the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Aliyu (SAN), during an unauthorised stop-and-search operation in Abuja.The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, disclosed the development on Monday while briefing journalists in Abuja.According to Sanusi, the officers were arrested following an investigation into the incident and have since been taken into custody.He said the officers are currently undergoing disciplinary procedures in line with the Nigeria Police Force’s internal regulations, stressing that the command would not tolerate acts of extortion, misconduct or abuse of office by its personnel.
The commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability and respect for the rights of members of the public, adding that any officer found guilty of misconduct would face appropriate sanctions.The alleged extortion reportedly occurred during an unauthorised stop-and-search operation in the Federal Capital Territory, with the ICPC chairman said to have been forced to part with ₦53,000 before the matter was reported to the police authorities.
