Police, Benue Stakeholders Forge New Strategy to Crush Rising Insecurity


The Police have commenced fresh moves to tackle the growing security challenges in Benue State as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 4 Headquarters, Makurdi, Dankombo F. Morris, convened a high-level security meeting with key stakeholders.


The meeting, held at the Police Officers’ Mess in Makurdi, was organised following a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, in response to the recent increase in criminal activities across the state.
According to a statement by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ayo Oluwaseun Martins, the meeting brought together top security officials, government representatives, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organisations, community groups and other critical stakeholders.


Those present included the Benue State Commissioner of Police, CP Cletus Nwadiogbu, senior police officers, representatives of the state government, members of the State House of Assembly, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), NGOs, and the Civil Protection Guard.


Addressing participants, AIG Morris emphasised that tackling insecurity requires collective efforts, urging residents and stakeholders to work closely with security agencies to protect lives and property.
He called for stronger cooperation to ensure criminal elements are denied space to operate within the state.


The police boss assured that the recommendations and resolutions reached at the meeting would be forwarded to the Inspector-General of Police to support ongoing security operations and policy decisions aimed at improving safety in Benue.


During the meeting, participants identified major security challenges affecting various communities and suggested measures to improve intelligence gathering, community involvement, and collaboration among security agencies.


Stakeholders pledged continued support and partnership with the police in the fight against crime, with the aim of restoring lasting peace and security across Benue State.
