The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has donated ₦10 million to St. Raphael’s Hospital in Umueri, Anambra State, to support healthcare delivery as he marked his 65th birthday.Obi disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, saying he chose to celebrate the milestone through acts of service rather than personal kindfestivities.According to the former Anambra State governor, he began the day with a Mass of Thanksgiving in Onitsha before visiting the rural hospital located in Anambra East Local Government Area.
He said the donation was aimed at supporting the hospital’s efforts to provide quality healthcare to residents of the community.“In furtherance of my belief that birthdays should be occasions for service rather than self-indulgence, I donated the sum of ₦10 million to support the hospital’s work of providing quality healthcare to the people,” Obi stated.The former governor noted that his visit to the hospital and interactions with patients reinforced the need for compassionate and people-centred leadership.Obi added that investing in critical sectors such as healthcare remains essential to improving the quality of life of Nigerians, expressing hope that the contribution would assist the hospital in expanding its services to the people.
