Appeal Court Bars INEC from Recognising David Mark-Led ADC Leadership, Party Insists Candidates UnaffectedThe Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed a judgment restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising or participating in any state congresses organised by committees appointed by the Senator David Mark-led caretaker leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).In a split decision of two to one, the appellate court upheld the earlier ruling and awarded N10 million in costs against the ADC.The judgment represents a significant legal setback for the party as it continues preparations for the 2027 general elections.Reacting to the verdict, however, the ADC maintained that the ruling would not affect candidates produced through its direct primary elections, insisting that its nomination process remained valid. The party dismissed concerns that the judgment could derail its electoral preparations, stating that its candidates remain lawfully nominated.
Meanwhile, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is expected to challenge the judgment at the Supreme Court. He also alleged that forged Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) documents were used in connection with the purported upload of candidates’ nominations, further intensifying the legal dispute surrounding the party’s leadership and nomination process. The latest court decision adds another chapter to the ongoing leadership crisis within the ADC as legal and political battles over the party’s structure continue ahead of the 2027 general elections.
