House Doesn’t Need Tinubu to Explain 2025 Budget Implementation – AgbeseBy Gift ChapiOdekina, AbujaThe Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Rep. Philip Agbese, has clarified that the House does not require President Bola Tinubu to appear before lawmakers to address concerns over the implementation of the 2025 national budget.
Agbese said the responsibility for explaining the execution of the budget lies with ministers, heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, as they are directly responsible for implementing appropriated funds. He noted that the National Assembly is constitutionally empowered to scrutinise government expenditure and ensure accountability in the management of public resources through its oversight functions.
According to the lawmaker, the House will continue to exercise its constitutional mandate by inviting relevant government officials to provide explanations on budget implementation whenever necessary.Agbese emphasised that the legislature’s oversight role is aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, and prudent management of public funds, rather than targeting the President personally. His remarks come amid growing public interest in the implementation of the 2025 budget and calls for greater accountability in the execution of government spending.
