Oyo schoolchildren release: New security framework needed for schools – Shehu Sani
Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has called for the introduction of a new national security framework to protect students across the country when schools resume.

Sani made the call while commending the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, the military, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force for their roles in securing the release of abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State.

In a post on X, the former lawmaker expressed relief over the freedom of the victims and praised those involved in the rescue operation.
“It’s relieving to learn that the abducted Oyo pupils have been released. Kudos to the NSA Ribadu, the military, DSS, the NPF and all those whose efforts led to this success,” Sani wrote.
He added that with schools preparing for the summer vacation, urgent measures must be put in place to safeguard students when they return.

“As schools wind up for the summer vacation, a new national schools security framework is needed to protect students when they return,” he said.
The development followed the release of pupils and teachers abducted from Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State after spending 50 days in captivity.

The release was confirmed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, in a statement shared on X on Friday.

“Finally, the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo, have been freed by their abductors,” Onanuga announced.
