Defence Minister Says Soldiers’ Monthly Salary Increased from N49,000 to N100,000ABUJA – The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has said the monthly salary of Nigerian soldiers has increased from N49,000 to N100,000, although the military remains underfunded despite improvements in personnel welfare.
The minister made the disclosure on Wednesday during an interview with News Central ahead of the broadcast of its NC Exclusive programme scheduled for Friday.Badaru, who previously served as the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), acknowledged that while the welfare of military personnel has improved, inadequate funding continues to pose a major challenge to the armed forces.According to him, “When they started, a soldier was collecting N49,000 monthly. We tried so hard; now he’s collecting N100,000.”He stressed the need for increased investment in the military to strengthen its operational capacity and enhance its ability to address the country’s evolving security challenges.
