Court Remands Former CCT Chairman Danladi Umar Over Alleged Corruption. ABUJA – The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) sitting in Maitama, Abuja, has remanded the former Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar, in Kuje Correctional Centre after he was arraigned by the Federal Government on allegations of corruption and abuse of office.
Justice Peter Kekemeke issued the remand order on Thursday after Umar was formally docked on a four-count charge filed by the Federal Government.According to the prosecution, Umar is accused of abusing his office by receiving illicit payments from contractors while serving as chairman of the tribunal.The Federal Government alleged that investigations revealed the former CCT chairman used his wife’s bank account to receive N5.5 million from a contractor who was awarded a contract to paint the headquarters of the Code of Conduct Tribunal in Abuja in 2021.
The case marks a significant development in the government’s anti-corruption efforts, with the court ordering Umar’s remand in Kuje Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.
