The Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) has postponed the local government election scheduled for November 7, 2026, indefinitely, leaving political parties and candidates waiting for a fresh date.ISIEC Chairman, Chief Charles Ejiogu, announced the decision on Saturday during a stakeholders’ meeting in Owerri, saying the commission was “constrained” to cancel the scheduled poll after wide consultations. He did not disclose a specific reason for the latest postponement.
The election was initially fixed for September 26 but was moved to November 7 following legal challenges and disagreements over the electoral timetable. The latest decision marks another delay in the conduct of council elections across Imo State’s 27 local government areas.Ejiogu assured stakeholders that a new date, timetable and guidelines would be announced within the shortest possible time. He also reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to conducting peaceful, transparent and credible elections.
