2027: Atiku, Peter Obi have made no effort to unseat Tinubu – Rep member Gagdi

The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Navy, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, has said former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, have not put in place any meaningful strategy to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Gagdi made the remark while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he argued that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) remains politically stronger and more organised than the opposition parties.

According to him, the APC has continued to maintain nationwide political mobilisation, which he described as far more active than what opposition parties are currently doing.
“I have never, in my political imagination, thought that my party, APC, would lose an election,” he said.

He questioned the level of preparation within the opposition, insisting that neither Atiku nor Obi had shown any concrete effort to challenge the ruling party ahead of 2027.

“What are the opposition doing? What are the opposition planning or doing? I have not seen, with the activities of the opposition, those you mentioned, Peter Obi or Atiku. I have not seen any effort being put in place by them to unseat or defeat the president come 2027,” he stated.
Gagdi further claimed that the APC’s political engagement across the country in the past year had been more extensive than that of any opposition party.

“You have seen APC’s activities in the last one year across Nigeria… where our political activities are ten times the political activities of any opposition political party in Nigeria,” he said.

He also dismissed claims that only opposition politicians were actively preparing for the next general election, stressing that the APC was equally focused on victory in 2027.

“You think Bola Tinubu and the APC are not trying to win elections in 2027? Atiku and Obi have always been defeated,” he added.
The lawmaker also accused some opposition figures of politicising Nigeria’s security challenges instead of offering solutions, arguing that such criticism is often aimed at gaining political advantage.
DAILY POST reports that the

African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the NDC have both confirmed that Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi’s credentials have been uploaded on the INEC portal ahead of the 2027 general elections, setting the stage for a likely three-way contest involving Tinubu, Atiku, and Obi.
